“Nevertheless, his introduction was quite gripping.”

Tonight I heard a Roman Catholic priest preach at our Baptist All Saints Day Sunday evening service. There was, for me, much that was discordant about his sermon (theologically/doctrinally speaking). Nevertheless, his introduction was quite gripping. He said that the richest place in the world was not an oilfield, not a diamond mine or goldmine or any other place like that. It was a cemetery. Why? Because cemeteries have countless dead people who took their knowledge and the wealth of their ideas with them: ideas that were not shared or brought to life by being put into practise – goals that were not achieved.

If you have ideas and dreams and goals, share them before you die, so that they can enrich the world, he said. My mind began turning over: thinking of the thoughts and ideas and goals that I need to look about sharing. I have no idea how much time I have left on this earth. The frightening earthquake last week Monday is proof of that – as the preacher also said. Icould easily have died. I’m still traumatized.

Lord, help me to “give to each flying minute something to keep in store.” Give me the superhuman energy, drive and stamina to focus on the goals and ideas with which you bless me. Help me seek to work as relentlessly as I focused on producing To Tell You the Truth. Give me back the fire and zeal I once had – one moment, one day at a time.
